Therefore whenever possible take your foot off the gas and coast. 5) Minimize Stopping & Starting: Plan your route to minimize traffic lights, and areas that are commonly jammed with traffic. 6) Do Not Use Cruise Control: Cruise control is a gas-guzzler especially for people living in hilly and mountainous regions. Cruise control will gun the engine going up a hill to maintain a constant speed and brake excessively going downhill. However, cruise control is fairly effective in flat areas on the highway. Therefore, only use it on the highway in areas that are flat with very few hills. 7) Do Not Accelerate to a Red-light: If you notice the light is red ahead of you ease up on the gas. Do not step on the gas only to have to hit the break when you reach the light. This is a terrible waste of gas. 8) Slowdown Highway Speed: Maintaining a slower speed on the highway can result in 20 percent higher mileage. Stick to the slow lane on the highway and let the gas guzzling drivers pass you. You will find travelling at a slower speed is also much more relaxing. 9) Minimize Right Turns: Waiting for traffic to go by so you can make a right turn will just waste gas. Try to take as many left turns as possible to your destination. 10) Plan Your Trip: Try not to use your car for one small errand. Instead plan ahead and try to complete all your errands at one in the shortest route possible. And choose a time when there is less traffic on the roadways. The trick to saving gas is to slow down and relax. Take your time going places and plan your route to avoid traffic lights and traffic. In addition be sure to keep your car in top condition and run all your errands in one trip. By following these simple rules you will decrease your trips to the gas station.
